Christ Crucified
Francisco de Zurbarán, 1655Francisco de Zurbarán was Spanish painter who was greatly influenced by Velázquez. Zurbarán is known for depicting religious figures in his work which were painted in a realistic style that enforces chiaroscuro, a technique used to create three dimensional effects in paintings. In his career, Zurbarán gained the nickname the “Spanish Caravaggio” due to his work mirroring effect that the Italian painter used.
