Francisco de Zurbarán

Francisco de Zurbarán was Spanish painter who was greatly influenced by Velázquez. Zurbarán is known for depicting religious figures in his work which were painted in a realistic style that enforces chiaroscuro, a technique used to create three dimensional effects in paintings. In his career, Zurbarán gained the nickname the “Spanish Caravaggio” due to his work mirroring effect that the Italian painter used.
