Jan van Eyck, 1434Jan van Eyck is known as one of the most significant painters of the Northern Renaissance in the 15th century. He was well renowned during his lifetime and was the court painter of Philip the Good, the Duke (essentially ruler) of Burgundy). His best-known work, the Ghent Altarpiece, is regarded as one of Northern Europe’s finest masterpieces.
