From My Window at the Shelton, West
Alfred Stieglitz, 1931The Shelton Hotel opened in midtown Manhattan in 1924 as the tallest hotel in the world. Stieglitz and Georgia O’Keeffe, his wife, lived on the 30th floor of the hotel between 1925 and 1936. The expansive view contributed to O’Keeffe’s interest in painting New York skyscrapers, while Stieglitz found it an interesting starting point for his photography.
