Berenice Abbott: Changing New York

These photographs—found in the New York Public Library’s Digital Collection—were taken by Berenice Abbott in the early 20th century. Her collection, titled “Changing New York,” documented the ever-changing landscape of New York City during the Great Depression. For a decade, Abbott photographed urban material culture and the built environment of New York, archiving the old construction and gradually revealing the new.
