Paul Klee - a Swiss expressionist painter - was a transcendentalist who believed that our material world was only one of many different realities open to human awareness. Klee admired, and often was inspired by the art of children - in his own work he wanted to achieve a similar “untutored simplicity”. He created intensely colored, relaxed line drawings and experimented with materials and techniques - he painted on “everyday” materials such as cardboard and burlap, and sprayed and stamped paint onto his canvases.
