Piet Mondrian: Featured Works

Piet Mondrian was both a theorist and painter who believed that art reflected the underlying spirituality of nature. As one of the leading founders of the Dutch modern movement De Stijl, Mondrian simplified painting to the most basic elements—line, color, and shape—to create a tension throughout his compositions. The opposing relationships between all of these elements and the tension these oppositions create reveal Mondrian’s conviction that art is a duality of man and nature.
