Édouard Vuillard

Édouard Vuillard was a French painter and printmaker associated with the symbolist group of artists known as “Les Nabis” (“prophets” in Hebrew and Arabic). This group - inspired by Post-Impressionist Paul Gauguin - used simplified forms and color to create emotionally-charged works. During his time in the group, Vuillard produced some of his best works. Vuillard’s subject matter was often abstract interiors and domestic scenes - he was interested in the idea of the interior space serving as a symbol for the interior self of an individual.
