The British Museum, in London, offers a profoundly wide-ranging, comprehensive, and extensive slice of art (and history). Their permanent collection’s eight million works stands as one of the world’s largest. This is in part due to its long history; established in 1753, it was the world’s first public national museum. At last count, in 2018, the museum boasted the most visitors annually—just short of six million each year.
