Denver Art Museum: Curated Picks

Boasting 70,000 works that span history and geography, the Denver Art Museum is one of the largest in America’s Midwest. The museum originated as the gallery for the Denver Artists’ Club in 1893—quite early considering Colorado didn’t join the Union until 1876. The museum is particularly strong in Native American art as it was the first American museum to collect art from American tribes. The museum eventually expanded its collection of indigenous peoples’ works beyond the Americas, inducting art from Africa and Oceania. Visitors (either in person or through Meural) can journey through works dating from prehistoric and Medieval times, as well as those representative of the Renaissance and Impressionism.
