Meural Exclusive: Claire Reika Wright's "Journeys"

“Phases of our lives are like journeys. We start out, sometimes knowing where we are heading, sometimes not; sometimes we reach our destination without a struggle, sometimes it is battle and sometimes we loose our way; always the journey will take us along unexpected paths, which, if we keep our minds open, can be found to be filled with fascination and wonderment so that the end of each journey becomes an eagerly anticipated beginning. These short ‘moving paintings’ that wander slowly through abstract landscapes are created from layers of marks, strokes of paint, scribbles, scratches and intricate textures and can be viewed as allegorical representations of such life journeys which viewers must travel themselves. I have deliberately kept the pace of each animation slow and steady, they are in effect ‘moving paintings’ designed for spaces where fast or jerky cinematic action would be out of place.
