Paintings of Ancient Egyptian Life

One of the oldest known civilizations, the Ancient Egyptian Kingdom spanned from 3100 to 525 B.C.E. and saw varying periods of both instability and progress. The civilization managed to prosper mostly because it was situated along the fertile Nile River. Artistic forms and iconography mostly served functional purposes, such as honoring the dead and recording history. Tombs were laden with tributes in the form of wall paintings and statues meant to guide the dead to the afterlife.

Executed thousands of years later, these paintings of varying Western cultures draw on the prolonged mysticism associated with ancient Egyptian culture and history, some of which emerges as vaguely accurate and at other times entirely Orientalist.
