Antonio Allegri da Correggio—better known as Correggio—was a pivotal figure of the Italian Renaissance and was responsible for some of the most sensuous works to come out of the 16th century. His use of dynamic composition, illusionistic perspective and dramatic foreshortening later became a foundation for the Baroque and Rococo art of the 18th century. Correggio is remembered for his eclectic and decorative ideas and his impact on many contemporary artists.
