The Bridgestone Museum of Art was founded in 1952 by Ishibashi Shojiro, the founder of Bridgestone Tire, as a way to exhibit his private collection of art. While the works that Shojiro donated remain the core of the museum’s collection, it has grown to include works from Ancient Greek ceramics to contemporary artworks from Japanese, European, and American artists.
