A collection of late works from Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851)—the most versatile, successful, and controversial painter of 19th-century England. Turner—often called the “painter of light”—was profoundly influenced by the landscapes and history paintings of Raphael and Titian. But he was also an innovator whose work anticipated modern abstract painting.
