The Cos Cob Art Colony was established in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1889 and ran through 1920. It began with John Henry Twachtman, who taught classes in Cos Cob, a neighborhood in Greenwich, Connecticut. In the summer months, American Impressionist painters would join him. The artists who frequently gathered at Cos Cob were crucial in organizing the 1913 Armory Show that introduced European Modernism to a wider American audience.
