Albert Contreras

Albert Contreras, who was born in 1933, made a name for himself as a painter in the 1960s. But in 1972, the California-native abruptly gave up painting and returned to Santa Monica, where he spent the following 25 years driving trucks and operating heavy machinery as a city employee. Contreras returned to painting in 1997 and has subsequently had a series of acclaimed solo shows.
