Meural brings you a collection of celebrated and compelling works from the Te Papa Tongarewa. In 1865, the Colonial Museum opened in Wellington setting up the first predecessor to what is now Te Papa. Different iterations came to be after the first museum opened and soon expanded to house New Zealand’s National Gallery of Art. With the museum now exploring a focus on the culturally diverse groups native to the country, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Act 1992 was established. Te Papa opened its doors and its collection was revamped to exhibit works that reflected New Zealand’s national identity.
