Edward Lear's Rare Birds

Edward Lear is remembered for his dual artistry: as a nonsensical limerick poet, and a proficient draftsman, particularly of animals. His drawings of lifelike birds landed him a position with the Zoological Society of London and commissions from the Earl of Derby—and have positioned him as a pivotal figure of early ornithology.
