Robert S. Duncanson: Hudson River School

Robert S. Duncanson was one of the few 19th century, landscape painters of African American descent to achieve international recognition. His work fits into the Hudson River School category with his eye for detail and luminosity. Duncanson spoke on how his work compared to European painters of his time: “of all the landscapes I saw in Europe (and I saw thousands) I do not feel discouraged.”
