Alfred Sisley was an Impressionist artist who spent his life and career between two different cultures. Sisley was born to English parents in France and, although he studied in Paris, he was seen as somewhat of an outsider by the group of Impressionist artists in the city. What made him differ from his contemporaries even more was his attention to painting mostly landscape scenes rather than examining the urban life, people and industrialization that were the main focus of his peers. Still, Sisley painted in true Impressionist style—creating beautiful, yet radical for their time, paintings that incorporated modern, everyday scenes with a dreamy palette and a sense of movement on the canvas.
