Etchings of Francisco de Goya

Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746–1828) was one of the most important Spanish artists of all time, often thought of as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. Offered here is a selection of etchings from two of his most important series: Los Caprichos (The Whims), a set of 80 visionary prints from his middle period (c. 1797) condemning the foibles and follies of civilized society; and Los Disparates (The Follies), a later series upon a similar theme, which was only published posthumously in 1864 under the title Proverbios (Proverbs).
