Tintoretto

Formerly known as Jacopo Robusti, Tintoretto was one of the greatest Mannerist painters of the Venetian School and possibly the last great painter of the Renaissance era. Deeply inspired by the works of Italian masters before him, he aimed to combine Titian’s use of color with the invigorating forms of Michelangelo. His paintings- most of them large scale narratives- are characterized by dramatic lighting and gesture, achieving a luminous and visionary quality to his works. Tintoretto’s bold inventiveness in both his handling of color and composition earned him the title of one of the most influential artists to come out of the late Renaissance.
