The Moon has, for centuries, captured the public imagination—a permanent satellite that different civilizations and religions, philosophers, and scientists have observed and explored as a means of understanding the world around them.

It wasn’t until 1966 that the first probe successfully landed on the Moon, and it was three years after that when Neil Armstrong uttered the famous phrase, “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” as he stepped foot on the Moon’s crater-covered surface.
