In the past two installments of How Meural Works, we’ve covered our mission, how we choose and acquire art, and the dynamic nature of our platform. In this installment, we’ll be announcing an entirely new way for you to interact with the art on our platform: the Meural Marketplace. But before we go into how it works, how you benefit, and more—some context.

As we’ve touched on earlier, the dynamic nature of our platform allows us to continually grow our platform, surprise our community, and build new and exciting partnerships. It also means that some works are available for a limited time. We’ve heard from our community that, frequently, you find a work you don’t want to part with. Now you don’t have to.

We are very proud and excited to announce the Meural Marketplace. As the name suggests, you will now finally be able to “collect” works, purchasing them and owning them forever, as you might a painting you find at auction, or at a gallery.

So many of the decisions we make come from listening—listening to our community, and the artists we partner with. This is how we’ve worked since the very beginning of Meural. In fact, we were incubated out of an artist collective (on the Lower East Side, in Manhattan), where we frequently took the suggestions of artists, literally building our product in their vision. We’ve remained dedicated to staying on the ground floor of the arts community—understanding not just how artists work but how they navigate the ever-changing market landscape. Artists love the exposure we’ve brought to their art, as well as our mission of fair compensation. And now, we’re giving them the opportunity to get even more than that: flexibility, control, and a way to sell their art directly to a new audience. In the Meural Marketplace, artists will enjoy 60% of all sales, as well as increased say in how we curate and present their works.

How the Meural Marketplace works

Just like iTunes and Amazon Prime Video, the Marketplace will allow everyone to buy and own their favorite art. It will work in tandem with the Meural Membership to create the best way to experience and explore our collection.

With the Meural Membership, you’ll still get a passport to a world of art—tens of thousands of images from the past, present, and future. This won’t change or diminish in any way. On the contrary: the Meural Membership will be a way to see and showcase works before they become available on the Meural Marketplace. Members will also get a special discount of 50% off.

Once works and playlists are in the Marketplace, they will be available to purchase. Just like for music (on iTunes, Amazon, and the like), you’ll be able to buy an individual work (like a song) or a playlist (like the whole album). To do this, you’ll just have to click “Buy”—whether or not you’re a Member. As you’ll see, we’ve kept our prices fair, balancing what our community expects and what artists have asked for.

Where we go from here

This is, of course, just the beginning. In the upcoming months, you can expect some very exciting new partnerships, artists, and ways to interact with our platform.
