An admirer of Paul Cézanne, Oluf Wold-Torne’s modest oeuvre verges on Impressionism but adheres to closely to the rigid, formal techniques he learned as a student at three separate Norweigen art academies. His long trip with friend and fellow painter Thorvald Erichsen to France and Italy from 1893 to 1896 ignited the bright color pallet, loose forms, and flattened space that defines his later work and situates him within the Post-Impressionist movement.
