Sam Abell
Since 1967, Sam Abell has been one of National Geographic’s most prolific and noteworthy photographic contributors. His work is considered among the magazine’s most artistic, rather than scientific, published works. This is evident in his work that will unapologetically obscure its subject in order to create a more compelling visual image. His work is defined by layers of imagery and light that create a pathway into the photograph for the viewer. Abell has exhibited his photographs in numerous shows, recently in a solo exhibition at New York’s International Center for Photography, and has published 7 books of photographs.
