Laurits Tuxen
A classmate of Peder Severin Krøyer and close associate with other Danish Skagen School artists, Laurits Tuxen was a lauded figure painter in the late 19th and early 20th centuries—so much so that he traveled Europe painting commissioned portraits of Danish, Greek, British, and Russian royalty. Himself a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Tuxen was the first headmaster of Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler, an art school that was open through 1912. He also painted landscapes and portraits of his own friends and family in his distinct style that somehow displays his well-educated hand while appearing effortless and loose.
