Like his contemporary Johannes Vermeer, Pieter de Hooch was an eminent figure of The Dutch Golden Age. De Hooch’s early work usually subjected peasants and soldiers in taverns or stables, but after he married and had children, he switch to painting domestic interiors, often of women and children performing daily tasks.
