Soběslav Pinkas
Soběslav Pinkas was a Czech painter in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the second half of the 19th century. A Czech Nationalist, Pinkas initially studied painting in Prague but was advised to move to Germany and France which had more internationally established art scenes. Pinkas lived in France from 1854 to 1865, where he exhibited regularly and was married. He moved his family back to Bohemia after his father died and became a well established artist and art teacher. Pinkas’ paintings can be identified by their representations of the lives of everyday Czechoslovakians presented in vignette-like compositions with dark backgrounds and self-contained action.
