Jan Victors was a painter in the Dutch Golden Age in the mid-17th century. Although Dutch Golden Age painters are known to have expanded beyond religious subject matter, Victors mostly adhered to Biblical history scenes. A student of Rembrandt, Victors was skilled in capturing expression and emotion in faces, granting his figures a sense of personality. When the Dutch economy fell in 1672, Victors abandoned painting and worked as a nurse in the later years of his life.
