Jerome Myers

Jerome Myers was an American painter in the late 19th and early 20th centuries associated with the Ashcan School, a group of American artists who portrayed daily life in New York City. Myers particularly painted impasto images of children in poorer neighborhoods in the city, creating bright figures in dark, subdued places. His images neither overly pity his subjects nor romanticize their positions. Myers was a key part of organizing the 1913 Armory show that introduced Americans to European Modernism.
