Claude Joseph Vernet was a Baroque, French painter of land- and seascapes. He found success after moving to Rome. He was heavily influenced by Giovanni Paolo Panini, who he most likely actually worked with. His paintings are praised for their integration of the figure into dramatic natural settings and his ability to capture atmosphere with precision and accuracy.
