One of Leonardo da Vinci’s most notable followers, Andrea Solario is best remembered for his religious scenes and three-quarter portraits of young men. Living in the North of Italy in the earlier stages of the Renaissance, Solario was exposed to a variety of techniques and painting styles. Solario worked in both Italy and France, living off commissions from private citizens and the church.
