Although he rarely left his home town in Northern Italy, Renaissance master Jacopo Bassano absorbed the styles of a wide range of artists including Dürer, Titian, and Raphael. He popularized the ‘nocturne’ style of scenes set at night illuminated by artificial light sources, and many consider him to have influenced the modern landscape.
