John Sloan was a 20th century American realist artist and a founding member of the Ashcan school of American art. He was also a member of The Eight—a group dedicated to infusing art into the subject of everyday life. He is best known for his urban genre scenes and his uncanny ability to capture the essence of neighborhood life in New York City.
