Anton Mauve was a 19th-century Dutch realist painter and a leading member of the Hague School. A master colorist, he became a very significant early influence on his cousin-in-law Vincent van Gogh. Most of Mauve’s paintings depict people and animals in outdoor settings, and his works—with their unconventional attention to detail—attest to his commitment to realism.
