Frederick Carl Frieseke was an American Impressionist painter who lived and worked in France. He is known for his female portraits that adapt a more academic rendering of the figure than many other Impressionist works, but maintain the seemingly carefree, almost blurry atmospheric backgrounds that classify Impressionism. He greatly admired Renior, who many art historians see as a major influence in Frieseke’s work.
