John Henry Twachtman was an American Impressionist painter in the late 19th century. After studying painting techniques in Munich and briefly visiting Venice, Twachtman returned to the American East Coast and established The Ten, a group of American artists who rejected the country’s dominant conservative visual culture and sought to promote innovation in art mostly inspired by European Impressionists.
