August Macke was a leading figure in the German Expressionist movement and a founder of Der Blaue Reiter. As a young artist, Macke traveled Europe and took in the art of Impressionists and Fauvists. Art historians often praise Macke for his ability to combine aspects of different art movements into his own unique style.
