John William Waterhouse was an English painter known for his works in the Pre-Raphaelite style. He mostly painted female figures from ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend in vivid color and detail. Waterhouse was not an official member of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood (he worked after the groups separation), but he was inspired by one of the founders, John Everett Millais.
