The English painter and poet, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, helped establish the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood—a group of artists who treated religious, moral, and medieval subject matter with a nonacademic approach. Rossetti’s works were characterized by sensuality medieval revivalism. An eccentric and sometimes troubled man, Rossetti exuded his powerful personality through his art, creating works that inspired the second wave of Pre-Raphaelitism.
